What Is Agent Orange? 

The chemical mixture contained dioxin, a contaminant associated with serious long-term health concerns. For many Veterans, the effects of Agent Orange exposure did not become apparent until years or even decades after their military service.

The Department of Veterans Affairs recognizes several illnesses as Agent Orange “presumptive conditions.” When an eligible Veteran has one of these conditions, the VA generally presumes that the illness is connected to qualifying military service, which may eliminate the need for a separate medical nexus opinion. The list of recognized conditions and qualifying exposure locations has expanded over time.

We work with our clients to determine whether their military service may have involved Agent Orange exposure, whether their diagnosed condition appears on the VA’s presumptive list, and what evidence may be needed to support their claim.

Even when a Veteran’s illness is not recognized as a presumptive condition, it may still be possible to pursue VA disability benefits. In those cases, additional medical and service evidence may be required to show a connection between the condition and Agent Orange exposure.
