A grieving widow and her family have filed a lawsuit after losing both her husband and her sister-in-law in a horrific Pennsylvania car crash last year.
A deadly accident took the life of a Pennsylvania police officer on Sunday, July 8. The fatal accident happened on I-95 when the officer was riding home early that morning after a work shift. What resulted was a tragedy that no one ever hopes to experience.
Another vehicle was on the road at the same time, but was heading in the wrong direction. The wrong-way driver struck the officer’s motorcycle head-on. The officer was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. A witness recounts that the driver was standing next to his car with his back to the accident, visibly upset.
The driver sustained injuries requiring surgery. He has been charged with third-degree murder, DUI and various related offenses. The deceased police officer left behind a wife and three children.
While the accused man could spend many years in a Pennsylvania prison if he is convicted of the charges filed against him, it does not help the family bring their loved one back. In cases like this, the family of a victim may wish to hold the responsible driver further accountable for his or her actions. A family may wish to assess their right to file a wrongful death civil action against a driver for negligent and perhaps reckless conduct in causing the fatal accident.
While little can ease the grief this family must feel for the loss of this husband and father, a successful claim may help assign accountability and serve as a message that drunk driving will not be tolerated on Pennsylvania roadways.

A fatal accident can occur at any time, changing lives forever.
The criminal trial of a man involved in a fatal accident in Pennsylvania is finally over, save for the sentencing.
No matter how much we try to avoid car accidents, no one can ever fully account for another person’s actions on the road. A 28-year-old woman accused of causing a fatal accident in Pennsylvania has been ordered to stand trial on several criminal charges in connection with the accident. The crash occurred after police attempted to stop the woman from driving on the wrong side of the road on Feb. 18. The fatal accident took place when her car struck a 25-year-old woman’s vehicle, killing the other driver at the scene.
The woman is facing 16 criminal charges, including third-degree murder, homicide while driving under the influence, aggravated assault, fleeing and eluding police, drug possession and other charges. The tragedy began when officers apparently saw the woman driving on the wrong side of the road. Police say that after they tried to stop the woman, she began swerving in and out of traffic in an attempt to pass cars. Eventually the woman crashed into the young victim’s car.
The deceased woman’s family may now have the legal right to pursue a wrongful death claim against any party deemed negligent for the fatal accident that took their loved one’s life. While the accused woman is facing Pennsylvania criminal charges, a wrongful death claim could result in reimbursement to the family for financial damages suffered. While a successful claim will not likely ease the grief, it may serve as an additional measure of justice against the wrongful acts of negligent parties.
