Work accident sends 2 Pennsylvania employees to the hospital

When on-the-job injuries occur, workers are often entitled to seek workers’ compensation to pay for medical costs and cover lost wages. Two employees may soon have to do that after suffering injuries in a Pennsylvania work accident on the afternoon of Thursday, June 7 around 3 p.m. The accident occurred in Crawford County at Advanced Cast Products.

The Vernon company’s website states that they manufacture iron products. Details about what exactly happened to cause the injuries are not entirely clear, but there was apparently some type of explosion and fire at the plant. The two workers sustained injuries serious enough to warrant a trip to the hospital. A hospital spokesman from UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh stated that one of the individuals was at the hospital receiving treatment for burns sustained in the accident. With regard to the other victim, there was no word on the extent of the injuries received or any updated medical condition.

A spokeswoman for the company was unable to confirm the reasons behind the accident although she did confirm that two employees were injured. Employees who witnessed the accident claim one of the workers was injured when molten iron splashed over a ladle. The other worker was also apparently injured and transported for an evaluation at a hospital in Meadville.

This Pennsylvania work accident will hopefully be investigated to determine its causes and what can be done to avoid future incidents. Hopefully the injuries the two employees sustained are not serious enough to necessitate a lengthy recovery period. However, regardless of the types of injuries sustained, both may qualify for workers’ compensation benefits, which would help them when it comes time to take care of the medical bills and lost income as they recover.
